Working between XMas and New Year #2
Another day alone at the office, getting stuff done.
Outside is around 0°C, freezing and the forecast says rain/snow.
A manager for one of my assignments wanted me to submit my time sheet early as they do not intend to work tomorrow, as last working day of the year, I am but they are not, they have taken vacation days. I guesstimated what the split would be between my assignment based on what was remaining on the smaller of the two, 4 hours today and 3 tomorrow, remaining hours on the larger.
Quite different tasks on the two assignments.
- The smaller one is PHP-work, bringing old (2008-2011, PHP 5.x) code up to latest (PHP 8.x) and rework parts that are not up to standard. Also some javascript-wonkyness that predates REST/JSON and does stuff in some RPC-ish way, it's really broken.
- The larger assignment is about bringing a first-incarnation Azure integrations, where things were spun out as manually edited ARM-templates and Logic Apps were carved on stone slabs from a TFS server on-premise .. exactly zero CI/CD. That is where I come in and bring it up to speed with CI/CD pipelines, git, bicep and replicable builds ..
There is actually a third assignment too, but it is not very well defined and solid; second line support and there is customers where I haven't been properly on-boarded which makes the support activities a bit tricky .. I've complained about this but nothing ever happens. After new year, I'm gonna ask to be excluded from the second line support as to focus on the customers development instead.
