Broke before Xmas

Last night one of my installed apps on my phone started to behave, it claimed it could not charge my debit card, the monthly fee.

Had a look at my bank account and yeah. About $9 sitting on my account.

Payday on friday, four days from now.

It seems like no matter how much you earn, there is always a matching hole to throw money into. I'm not cheap, greedy or stingy, just frugal, I don't throw money around. I'm the main bread winner of the family. The cost of living has increased the last year to the level of not-even-funny-any-more, where the recurring costs are the large part, electrical bills two years ago were like $70 .. this spring they were $300 to $350 each month.

MIL, my wife's mother, have come down with medical issues which might require operation or amputation and hospital stay, which would incur costs which she can't pay by herself, so we have to pay these bills. Wife thinks she might need to even travel, which would incur even more economical strain.

I don't know how to cover worst-cast-scenario as that would require more monetary resources than I have or could gather. My regular buffer account has slowly drained this year as more costs piled up, our car broke down in new different ways, we have strewn about $5000 throughout the year into the car repairs, about 2/3 of it's market value.

In short, I wish Christmas could just be skipped over and 2023 to be over, hoping 2024 would be different, without economical strain and allow for some economical regrowth in regards of buffers.
